Yamburgskoye oil gas condensate field

The Yamburgskoye field is a field of gas, gas condensate and oil. It was discovered in 1969.It is located in the transpolar part of the West Siberian Plain, in the Tazovsky peninsular in the subarctic zone. The landscape represents a tundra plain with a dense network of rivers, streams, lakes, bogs. Permafrost extends to a depth of 400 meters. The coldest month is January with average temperature up to minus 25 centigrade. The temperature often drops up to minus 55 and lower. Minus 63 centigrade was registered in January 2006. The Cenoman and Neocomian formations are gas bearing. The area of the Yamburgskoye field is 170 to 50 kilometers. According to Vniizarubezhgeologiya the Yamburgskoye field ranks the third in the world in terms of initial recoverable reserves.

According to the administrative-territorial division the northern part of the field is located in the Tazovsky region, and the southern one is in the Nadym region of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous okrug. The development of the Yamburgskoye field began in 1980. «Gazprom dobycha Yamburg», a 100 % Gazprom subsidiary, possesses license for its development.

Over 3 trln m3 of gas and some 18 mln t. of gas condensate was produced within the period of the Yamburgskoye oil gas condensate field operation. Gas treatment is carried out at 9 comprehensive gas treatment units (UKPG) and 4 pre-treatment gas units (UPPG).

In the near-term the Company plans to develop the peripheral areas of the field. The Company started to produce gas in the Aneryakhinskaya area in 2004. The Aneryakhinskaya area reached its design capacity (10 bcm per year) in January 2005.

First commercial gas was supplied from comprehensive gas treatment unit № 9 (UKPG-9) of the Kharvutinskaya area to the main pipelines in December 2006. In 2007 pre-treatment gas unit №10 (UPPG-10) was put into operation in this area. The Kharvutinskaya area was brought to its nominal capacity of 25 bcm per year in 2008.

The infrastructure of Yamburg will be used for treatment of gas produced in the neighboring fields in the long view.
