The Zapolyarnoye oil gas condensate field

The Zapolyarnoye field is a field of gas, condensate and oil. The Zapolyarnoye field was discovered by geologists in 1965. It is located in the southern part of the Tazovsky region, 180 km southeast of Yamburg. The geological structure of the Zapolyarnoye field is similar to that of Yamburg. In terms of reserves it ranks the sixth in the world and is considered a unique one. Its compactness sets it apart from other fields. The area of the field is 8745 ha. It stretches in 50 kilometers in length and is 30 kilometers wide. It enables to develop Cenomanian deposits only by three (the most powerful in the world) comprehensive gas treatment units.

On the night of October 1, 2001 commercial gas of the first start-up complex of the Zapolyarnoye field was supplied to the central gas transmission main lines of the country. The most powerful facility in the world with project capacity of 35 bcm is at the Zapolyarnoye field.

In 2001 RF President Vladimir Putin visited Zapolyarnoye. His arrival underlined strategic importance of the Zapolyarnoye field on a national scale.

In December 2002 gas was supplied from UKPG-2S to pipeline «Zapolyarnoye – Novy Urengoy». And precisely a year after first commercial gas was produced from UKPG – 3S.

The Zapolyarnoye oil gas condensate field is the largest gas project successfully implemented by Gazprom at the beginning of the XXI century. The Zapolyarnoye field obtained its project capacity in 100 bcm per annum on October 2, 2004. It ensured augmentation of gas production of the whole industry.

The field is being developed. In the short term Gazprom dobycha Yamburg plans to put into operation two Valanzhin comprehensive gas treatment units UKPG-1V and UKPG-2V at the Zapolyarnoye field with total capacity of around 15 bcm of gas and some 3,2 mln tons of gas condensate per annum.
